One of the defining features of the Research & Monitoring Centre for Coastal & Maritime Tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean is its network model. Rather than operating as a top-down data collection exercise, the Centre is built on active collaboration with Contact Points in each partner country — national or regional representatives responsible for contributing local data and expertise to the shared platform.
This network approach reflects a fundamental insight: sustainable tourism governance cannot be achieved in isolation. Coastal tourism flows across borders, maritime ecosystems are shared, and the challenges facing one destination often mirror those of its neighbours. A collaborative monitoring framework is therefore not just desirable — it is essential.
Each partner country contributes data aligned with the Centre's common methodology, ensuring that cross-country comparisons are meaningful and reliable.
